Gift the gift of Education to children in Cambodia.

The state school system in Cambodia is beset by a lack of investment, poor facilities, limited resources and under-trained teachers. As the youth population increases and these resources are stretched more and more thinly on the ground, those with the least are left behind as the well-off can afford extra tuition.

Journeys Within Our Community (JWOC) helps fill current gaps in the Cambodian educational system by offering free English, Computer and extra-curricular classes to over 850 individuals living in and around Siem Reap, Cambodia. By providing this service to Cambodian youth, JWOC gives children an opportunity to learn valuable skills in a safe and friendly environment, breaking the cycle of poverty. Despite the fact that a year's worth of textbooks costs only ten dollars and the high demand for such classes, books are in short supply.

You can help. Just $10 provides a child with enough English language textbooks to last an entire year.

Update from the Field
March 2016

Khung Votty is a twelve-year-old boy who has benefitted from Journey's Within Our Communities Free Classes program. He has been learning english at JWOC for two years now and his English has vastly improved to the point where he is confident to have conversation with staff in English. His favorite subject is math and he hopes to become an accounant one day. He feels incredibly grateful to be able to learn english and they anticipate further success from Khung!

September 2016

Providing English textbooks not only helps to provide structure to children's learning but also helps to provide our Scholarship Student teachers with the support and guidance to provide effective teaching. Dany Pem is one of JWOC's full time English teachers/scholarship students, and she works with JWOC's young and older learners. She uses the English textbooks to plan, organize and execute her lessons to the highest quality. They use the textbooks to understand the objectives of the lesson, bring in key themes, case studies and related activities that engage the students and improve the learning process.

JWOC develops projects in Southeast Asia that reduce poverty levels, increase educational and economic opportunities, and empower recipients and supporters, inspiring ongoing social change.
