About Jaeney

Age
16
School
Tohono O'odham High School
Location
San Simon Village, AZ
Grade
11th

Jaeney lives at home with her mother, grandfather, disabled aunt, cousin, and two dogs. She enjoys playing sports and traveling to other villages, where she can share traditional songs and dances. The school she attends is 20 miles from her village, and the transportation to and from school is unreliable, forcing her to wake up early each day to catch the bus, and take the hour and a half ride to school.

The people in Jaeney's village are among the poorest in the U.S., and most of her peers struggle to have enough food. This constant, gnawing hunger makes it difficult for students like Jaeney to focus and excel in their education.

You can help. For just $10, you can provide Jaeney with food for one week. Help her achieve her dream of becoming a film maker!

Make it a monthly gift by checking the "Make this a Monthly Gift" box and you will provide an ongoing sponsorship that helps carry Jaeney through school.

About Girls' Voices:

Girls' Voices is a signature program of GreaterGood.org intended to raise funds for girls' secondary education through media made by girls. Our goal is for girls around the world to connect to their voice, their dreams for their education, and use the power of digital media to create images, stories, and visual metaphors that can communicate their strength and potential to the world. The intention of this project is to empower girls to utilize videography and to raise funds, 100% of which will directly contribute to scholarship funds for girls facing financial barriers to completing secondary education.

The Native American Advancement Foundation was formed in 2011 by members of the Tohono O'odham Tribe to deliver academic and health and wellness services throughout the Tohono O'odham Nation in Pima County, Arizona. Through our efforts, we are strengthening Native American communities by providing programs in the areas of education, health and wellness, and opening economic opportunities on tribal lands.

NAAF is a 501(c)(3) tax–exempt, nonprofit organization founded by members of the Tohono O'odham Nation, Gu Vo District, in an effort to help our community advance in the areas of education, arts and culture, economic development, health and wellness, and housing.
